Decorated kickboxer Cédric Doumbè is rumored to have recently signed with the UFC.
French media outlet beIN Sports were the first to report that the former two-time GLORY kickboxing champion has bagged a UFC deal. Fans got excited about the addition of another elite striker in the already deep welterweight division.
However, Doumbe recently cleared the air, dismissing the reports as rumors stemming from a misinterpreted sentence. The Frenchman noted that while he had signed a one-time deal ahead of UFC Paris last year, he will not be officially under the UFC banner until his first fight in the promotion.

The former GLORY champ wrote on Twitter:
I never said I signed to UFC. I said that the contract was signed (before #ufcParis ) and that until I fight I'm not officially in the UFC so I can negotiate with other big organizations. You have to listen well when I speak. #📐💀 h/t Google translate
Doumbe also admitted that the choice to join the world's biggest MMA promotion after a glorified kickboxing career is a tough one at the age of 30. He wrote:
"I know you all want to see me at #UFC . I really want to make you love, but the choice offered to me is really not easy and at 30 it will be the last #choix of my life. It's not easy ❗️💰V📸"
Cédric Doumbè was originally signed to fight at UFC Paris
The UFC went to France for the first time in September 2022, hosting a fight night headlined by hometown heavyweight Ciryl Gane and Tai Tuivasa. Former GLORY champ Cédric Doumbè was also expected to make his UFC debut on the card against Darian Weeks.
However, fans' hopes of a new UFC welterweight star were quickly shattered due to a bizarre French MMA rule. The French MMA federation doesn't let fighters with less than 10 professional MMA bouts from fighting opponents with a differential of more than four fights.
While Cédric Doumbè was 2-0 back then, Weeks had a 5-2 record, which is a pretty reasonable matchup considering the Frenchman's kickboxing pedigree. Doumbe never made it to UFC Paris and was removed from the promotion's roster soon after.
Cedric Doumbe also issued callouts to Sean Strickland and Paulo Costa ahead of UFC Paris.
