Joe Rogan recently offered his take on what the hip hop genre was like in the 1990s, believing its dominance by gang violence made it one of the wildest periods in music history.

On episode #2205 of the Joe Rogan Experience (JRE), Rogan welcomed the Legion of Skanks, a group of comedians that consists of Big Jay Oakerson, Luis J. Gomez and Dave Smith. During the show, the group covered a host of different topics before eventually getting to 90s hip hop and what transpired at the time.

While the 90s are considered some of the most important times in the genre's history, the decade was also dominated by gang rivalries.

The most notable was the beef between New York City's East Coast and Los Angeles' West Coast, which saw stars and rivals The Notorious B.I.G and Tupac Shakur gunned down in drive-by shootings within six months of each other, while at the heights of their fame.

Rogan shared his thoughts on the period:

"Those beefs, they would go to actually shooting each other. That's what's the craziest thing. Never in the history of show business was there a scenario where stars were having other stars murdered openly."

Dana White praises Joe Rogan for his contribution to combat sports commentary

Joe Rogan is one of a small few who have been with the UFC longer than Dana White. The UFC president was instilled in his role in 2001, whereas Rogan has been doing commentary work since 1997.

Since then, both Rogan and White have become staples of MMA and have regularly offered their respect and praise to one another whenever given the opportunity.

The latest to do so was White, who recently appeared on the 2 Bears,1 Cave podcast. During the show, the 55-year-old had nothing but positives to say regarding Joe Rogan and his work for MMA. He said:

"I consider him [Rogan] the greatest to ever do it. F**k all these guys that have ever done any type of commentating on combat sports before this. Rogan is by far [the best].

White continued:

"Every time you would see him on camera and he would be talking about the fights that night, you knew, you felt it in your f**king soul, this guy was not a paid talking head. This motherf**ker loves this sh*t and this is 100%. It came through at every event that we did."
