Shavkat Rakhmonov believes Ian Machado Garry is thinking too far ahead
During a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Ian Machado Garry expressed confidence in defeating Shavkat Rakhmonov this weekend before beating Belal Muhammad in 2025 to win the welterweight title. Then, 'The Future' wants to move up to middleweight to fight Khamzat Chimaev.
However, 'Nomad', the first obstacle on Garry's lost list of ambitious objectives, recently informed MMA Fighting:
"Yeah, I think he’s going to stumble in the first step."
Rakhmonov was originally scheduled to fight Muhammad, the welterweight champ who was going to defend his title for the first time. Because of 'Remember the Name's' withdrawal due to a serious bone infection, 'The Future' who was originally scheduled to fight Joaquin Buckley, stepped out of that bout and decided to fight the unbeaten Kazakh fighter instead.
'Nomad' could have potentiallywaited for Muhammad to recover and gone straight for the title fight, but he decided to fight Garry to keep himself active and give fans what they desired.
At UFC 310, he is certain that he will be the first to defeat the Irish fighter:
"All of that will end with my hand being raised with my victory."
