Dustin Poirier hinted at retirement leading up to his UFC 302 lightweight title bout against Islam Makhachev. After losing the clash via fifth-round submission, he reiterated that he was unsure if his career would continue or if he would walk away from mixed martial arts. That did not stop 'The Diamond' from sharing a Father's Day post, featuring Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler.

Championship Rounds shared a screenshot of the No.4-ranked lightweight's Instagram story, captioning the post:

Dustin Poirier believes Conor McGregor will defeat Michael Chandler

Dustin Poirier has shared the octagon with both Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler. Poirier shared his prediction for the bout between the two, which had been set for UFC 303 but has since been indefinitely postponed. Speaking at his UFC 302 post-fight press conference, 'The Diamond' claimed:

"If Conor comes back anywhere similar to what he was before the injury - I'm talking timing wise, his rhythm - I think he knocks Chandler out. Obviously, I've fought them both. I've fought Conor three times. The way Chandler covers distance with big movements against a sniper like Conor, you're going to run into something big and you can't take those shots."

It remains unclear if McGregor will look the same after returning from a three-year hiatus. 'The Notorious' has not competed since breaking his leg when he faced Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. Meanwhile, Chandler has been inactive for nearly two years, with 'The Diamond' also serving as his most recent opponent at UFC 281 in November 2022.
