What happened in the UFC 229 main event between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor?
Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Conor McGregor was one of the ugliest rivalries in UFC history. The lead-up to their clash involved trash-talk about family members and religion.
The two fighters finally locked horns at UFC 229 in October 2018. The T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada served as the venue for the event.
Nurmagomedov outclassed his opponent for the majority of the fight and went on to submit him with a neck crank in the fourth round. With the victory, the Dagestani successfully defended his lightweight throne.
After the contest, 'The Eagle' jumped out of the octagon to attack McGregor's friend and teammate Dillon Danis in the crowd. This led to an all-out brawl between the two fighters' teams.
Nurmagomedov went on to defeat Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje and then announced his retirement from the sport.
