Joe Rogan believes Alex Pereira's coach and former UFC light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira had his prime years outside the big leagues.
During the #160th MMA Show of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, the veteran sportscaster told Francis Ngannou just how feared the 44-year-old was in the Brazilian MMA circuits prior to his UFC days:
"Glover [Teixeira] was a guy that was locked out of America for six years. He couldn't come to America for six years because he had visa issues. He was like the boogeyman. We would all hear about him in Brazil. Glover was like one of those guys... I think he wasted his prime unfortunately in Brazil... I think his prime years were outside of the United States."

Teixeira is the second-oldest fighter to have held a UFC title. However, his time in the world's premier MMA promotion was not without setbacks. And after churning out mixed results in his career, few would've expected him to capture the light heavyweight gold.
However, that's exactly what Teixeira did. The Brazilian went on a six-fight win streak from 2019 to 2021, culminating in a light heavyweight title win against Jan Blachowicz at UFC 267 at the age of 42.
The MMA fighter has since stepped away from active competition, following his unanimous decision loss to Jamahal Hill at UFC 283 in 2023.
In a coaching capacity, he has helped Pereira achieve MMA superstardom by attaining two-division champion status in the UFC.
Joe Rogan explains why it's hard to defend against Alex Pereira's left hook
Alex Pereira is one of the most feared punchers in UFC history. His left hook is the stuff of legends and has put the lights out of many top mixed martial artists including the likes of Jiri Prochazka and Jamahal Hill.
During the #159th MMA Show of the JRE, Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson asked Joe Rogan why fighters fail to effectively prepare for 'Poatan's explosive punch. As Rogan sees it, the left hook is far from the only game-changer in the Brazilian's repertoire:
"It's not like that's the only weapon he has. Anything he hits you with you are f****d... He throws a nasty jab to the body too. That's one of the things he did with Jiri [Prochazka]."
