Fans recently became emotional while reacting to Dustin Poirier's walkout song for UFC 302. The pay-per-view event is set to take place on June 1 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Poirier will challenge Islam Makhachev for the lightweight title in the main event. The 32-year-old Dagestani will defend his title for the third time in the sixth pay-per-view event of 2024, the first against a legitimate 155-pound opponent. Meanwhile, Poirier is committed to winning the undisputed title on his third attempt.
At the UFC 302 media day, Poirier revealed his walkout song for the pay-per-view event. He stated that he would walk out on a mashup of Willie Spence’s cover of Rihanna’s 'Diamonds' and 'The Boss' by James Brown.
''Imma do a mashup. It's happening''

Poirier bounced back quickly from his knockout defeat to Justin Gaethje at UFC 291, winning via TKO in the second round against Benoit Saint Denis at UFC 299. 'The Diamond' is considered one of the most experienced lightweight fighters of his generation, having defeated former UFC champions like Max Holloway and Conor McGregor, among others.
Meanwhile, Makhachev has amassed an impressive 13-fight win streak, which was highlighted by his first-round knockout victory at UFC 294 in a rematch with former UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.
Dustin Poirier previews his fight against Islam Makhachev at UFC 302
Dustin Poirier will make his third attempt at capturing UFC lightweight gold when he faces divisional kingpin Islam Makhachev at UFC 302 this weekend.
Makhachev dismissed Poirier's prospects of winning UFC gold on the media day leading up to the event.
'The Diamond' responded sharply, stating:
"I can definitely win this fight. If I touch his chin, he'll go down. And he'll find that out on Saturday. Maybe that's something he doesn't need to believe. Maybe he needs to be positive and be confident walking into this - which he should be. But if you don't think I have a chance to win, you're lying to yourself."
