“He’s no danger for me” - Chingiz Allazov doesn’t mind fighting Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong again

It’s hard to think of who could present Chingiz Allazov with a reasonable threat to his ONE featherweight kickboxing world championship at the moment, but that doesn’t mean he’s not willing to give contenders who have earned a shot a chance.

After tearing through the division in the featherweight kickboxing world grand prix, he knocked out former world champion Superbon Singha Mawynn last week at ONE Fight Night 6 in Bangkok.

Speaking to the South China Morning Post this week, Chingiz Allazov was asked about a potential rematch with Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong, whom he beat before taking out Superbon. Here are his thoughts on the fight:

"I said before, Sitthichai is one of the most dangerous [guys], but [he’s] no danger for me. He has good tactics, good game plan, and a good safe distance."

Of Chingiz Allazov’s four wins in ONE Championship, Sittichai was the only man to go the distance with him and his power. Since their first meeting, Sitthichai has overcome Dutch kickboxer Mohammed Boutasaa, winning by unanimous decision last October.

He’s now the number three contender in ONE Championship’s official rankings, behind Superbon and Marat Grigorian.

Chingiz Allazov promises to be faster, more technical in potential Superbon rematch

While there isn’t much to improve in Chingiz Allazov’s performance against Superbon, the new featherweight kickboxing world champion believes he can do it better if they meet again.

The fight started even with Allazov beginning to pull away as the fight hit the second round. After securing two knockdowns against Superbon, Allazov shut off the lights with an overhand right towards the end of the second frame.

However, many hoped Superbon would be granted an immediate rematch by ONE Championship given his accolades in kickboxing and Muay Thai.

In the same interview with SCMP MMA, 'Chinga' spoke about the possibility of fighting Superbon a second time:

"Yes, ok. No problem. I have real respect for him. Before, he was the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. I [was] number two but now, I’m number one. I don’t like these rankings. This is good. You see this, but my mental focus is another [thing]."

Allazov also revealed the areas he could push harder in to look even better against Superbon:

"[Mentally], I’m ready and maybe in other fights I can give 100 percent. I’ll be more technical, make my speed more, and maybe even have more power."

Although Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong could be next for Allazov, it’s not inconceivable to think an immediate rematch with Superbon could be next as well.

Singha Mawynn was undefeated in ONE Championship prior to fighting Chingiz Allazov and is widely considered a top- or the top- kickboxer in the world. He’d gone 4-0 for ONE, including a devastating head kick KO over Giorgio Petrosyan.
