Nico Carrillo talked about Superlek Kiatmoo9's legendary reputation heading into their upcoming matchup.
In April 2023, Carrillo made his ONE Championship Muay Thai debut, defeating Furkan Karabag with a third-round knockout. Since then, the Scottish bantamweight has continued putting the division on notice by taking out Muangthai PK Saenchai, Nong-O Hama, and Saemapetch Fairtex, all inside the distance.
On Jan. 24, 2025, Carrillo looks to skyrocket his value when he challenges two-sport world champion Superlek in the ONE 170 co-main event. During an interview on the Leather'd Podcast, Carrillo had this to say about his upcoming opponent, 'The Kicking Machine':
"But then with Superlek, he's never been stopped in like 300-plus fights. He's never been knocked out. He has got the number one ranking for pound-for-pound striker on the planet right now."

Superlek looks to extend legendary run by taking out Nico Carrillo
At 29 years old, Superlek has established a lifetime Muay Thai/kickboxing record of 139-29-4. The Thai superstar's success has featured sixteen fights under the ONE Championship banner, leading to promotional records of 11-0 in Muay Thai and 4-1 in kickboxing.
Superlek's latest four-fight run has arguably been the best chapter of his fighting career - Rodtang Jitmuangnon (unanimous decision Muay Thai win), Takeru Segawa (unanimous decision kickboxing win), Kongthoranee Sor Sommai (unanimous decision Muay Thai win), and Jonathan Haggerty (first-round knockout Muay Thai win).
Superlek made history in his last fight by defeating Haggerty to become a two-sport world champion. Heading into ONE 170, 'The Kicking Machine' has solidified his legacy, while Nico Carrillo has plenty more to prove.
Carrillo is seen as a legitimate threat to Superlek's bantamweight Muay Thai world title, primarily due to his size and power. It'll be easier said than done for 'King of the North,' as the Thai superstar has been unbeatable over the last few years.
