Jonathan Haggerty didn't see anything wrong when Superlek Kiatmoo9 decided to take a fight barely three months before their world title showdown. Superlek fought and beat Thai slugger Kongthoranee Sor Sommai in a Muay Thai matchup at ONE Friday Fights 68 this past June that some observers believed was ill-timing for the ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion.
Haggerty, however, believes Superlek will still be in the best shape possible when they square off for his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title at ONE 168: Denver on Sept. 6 at the Ball Arena.
In an interview with the South China Morning Post, Jonathan Haggerty admitted he and his team were surprised when they found out Superlek decided to fight Kongthoranee in June.
Haggerty, though, believes Superlek made the right adjustments bumping up to bantamweight and will be in peak shape for ONE 168.

He said:
"Yeah. So we were a bit surprised by the way he took that fight before. He should have been trying to build up to bantamweight, getting a little bit stronger, but he's had a lot of time now. So surely he's done what he's had to do in training, and he's well prepared."
Haggerty, who also holds the ONE bantamweight kickboxing world title, is more than a week into his stay in Denver to acclimate to the city's altitude.
'The General' is on an impressive six-fight winning streak and looks to add Superlek to his list of victims, which includes Thai legend Nong-O Hama and ONE bantamweight MMA world champion Fabricio Andrade, among others.
Jonathan Haggerty wants the best version of Superlek at ONE 168
Jonathan Haggerty's second defense of his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title might be the most important fight of his career.
Not only will he cement his place at the top of the Muay Thai world with a win, but he'll also avenge his 2018 defeat to Superlek.
In the same interview with the South China Morning Post, Haggerty said he expects Superlek to be well-adjusted to the 145-pound division to avoid any excuses once he beats the Thai superstar.
"So I believe he's fully prepared. I've seen a few videos. He's looking a bit pumped, a little bit beefy. So, yeah, I feel like he's put a lof of size. He knows what he's up against, and he's training harder than ever. Well, that's what I want, really, you know. I don't want any excuses after I beat him, so it's good."
