Chael Sonnen recently denied rumors that Conor McGregor could be signed by another promotion. Sonnen hinted that it would be impossible for any other organization to sign McGregor because of his fame and prominence in the combat sports industry.
Despite his time away from the octagon, McGregor remains one of the most well-known names in combat sports. 'The Notorious' has also been MMA's biggest box office draw, accounting for eight of the top 10 highest-selling pay-per-view events.
In a recent YouTube video, Sonnen explored the likelihood of any other promotion signing McGregor. The UFC Hall of Famer claimed that because of his superstar status, no organization could afford to sign the Irishman, saying:
''We're talking about Conor McGregor here, and first off just so you understand there is no other promotion, so you fully understand, that doesn't mean that you won't get a promoter to come forward and say that I would. There is no validity and sincerity to that. Okay, say Chael's wrong, yes there is, this promoter saying it and it is not just for headlines, he can't write the cheque... He couldn't even tell you how big that cheque would have to be... They don't even know how much Conor McGregor is being paid.''

As for McGregor, he broke his leg in the opening round during his matchup with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in 2021. After spending a long time on the sidelines, he was set to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303 earlier this year because the two were rival coaches at 'TUF 31'. However, McGregor's plans for a comeback were derailed when he pulled out of the welterweight fight due to a toe injury sustained during training.
Numerous sources claim that McGregor is in talks with the Ambani family for an exhibition boxing match against Logan Paul next year. He may also face Jake Paul, according to rumors.
When Chael Sonnen stated the only way Dana White would arrange a Conor McGregor bout
Conor McGregor was recently found liable for assaulting Nikita Hand at a Dublin hotel, back in 2018. This resulted in him being criticized by the entire MMA community, raising the question of whether he will ever foot inside the octagon.
To answer this topic, Chael Sonnen posted an Instagram video earlier this month saying:
''What do we think Dana is going to do? Dana doesn’t play checkers; he plays chess. He’s several steps ahead, and if your match doesn’t have meaning for the future—a potential to take you somewhere else—White will not book that match.”
