Submission grappling sensation Danielle Kelly loves competing on ONE Championship’s global stage. She loves making a living by doing something she is truly passionate about, but perhaps most of all, she loves sharing that passion with those that are just starting their journey in submission grappling.
In an interview with ONE Championship, Kelly spoke about her experience teaching the next generation of Brazilian jiu-jitsu stars:
“I think better than winning money or any title, the biggest thing that I get, especially from parents is that I'll teach a seminar with their son or daughter, niece, nephew, they'll be there. And the next day or that night, I'll get a message from a family member or friend saying that because of me, their son or daughter wants to take up jiu-jitsu classes because they feel comfortable now, they want to learn.”
Kelly continued, saying:

“I think that's what makes me more motivated to do better, just because I think I have the ability to help others and to be in my shoes, I think I'm at a point now where I want to try to help other people. So that brings a lot of motivation and yeah, it brings a lot of good. I know that's a lot, sorry but I'm just saying it from the heart.”
Danielle Kelly understands the importance of a strong support system
Danielle Kelly has had her fair share of experience running with the wrong crowd. Continuing her conversation with ONE Championship, Kelly spoke about a time when she was simply surrounding herself with people who did not care to see her succeed:
“I thought I was around the right people at that time and I feel with where I am now, I had to separate myself from those certain people because they were bringing me down. I wasn't getting a support system so some of them were either bringing me down or weren't supporting me as much as I needed.”
Fortunately, Danielle Kelly made a change and is now one of the most recognized women in all of submission grappling. Having signed with the biggest martial arts promotion in the world, Danielle Kelly has achieved an incredible level of success and her strong support system played a sizable role in getting her there:
“If you surround yourself with a good environment that's really going to help you go far. Whereas if you surround yourself with bad people, they're just going to put you down, you know, and that's just the reality of it. So I think with my situation now, I think where I'm at now speaks for itself because I'm around the right people.”
