Brian Ortega recently threw his name into the hat of fighters linked to the Noche UFC event at the Sphere. The featherweight contender's promotional tenure has been fraught with setbacks and inactivity. His goal, though, remains to capture UFC gold at 145 pounds.

Given that Noche UFC takes place on Sep. 14, which is two days before Mexican Independence Day, it is only natural that Ortega, who is one of MMA's most prominent Mexican-American fighters, intends to take part in the monumental event, which also coincides with the UFC's Sphere debut.

Unfortunately, his desire to take part in the event has not been well received by some fans, given how infrequent his activity has been. 'T-City's' intention to compete at Noche UFC received a host of reactions from X/Twitter, with one fan predicting a mishap at the weigh-ins.

"Here comes another Ortega weight miss."

Another fan merely dismissed Ortega, highlighting his past title fight losses.

"NAH BRO ALWAYS LOSE. HE WILL EMBARRASS US AGAIN THAT DAY. SMH."

One fan called for him to face Diego Lopes like he was originally scheduled to at UFC 303.

"Ortega vs lopes."

Another just dismissed him fighting on the card altogether.

"Pass."

While the UFC has not made any official announcement regarding Ortega's potential inclusion at Noche UFC, it would be a sensible move. The promotion is short on notable Mexican and Mexican-American fighters, with 'T-City' being among the few, who would certainly help elevate the appeal of Noche UFC.

Brian Ortega has lacked consistency since 2018

Over the past few years, Brian Ortega has struggled to find consistency inside the octagon.

In fact, he has barely managed to fight more than once a year. He fought once in 2024, submitting Yair Rodriguez with an arm triangle in round three. Before that bout, his previous fight, also against Rodriguez, took place in 2022.

That fight ended with a TKO loss due to a shoulder injury. Prior to that, 'T-City' had fought in 2021, losing an action-packed title fight to Alexander Volkanovski after recording a win over Chan Sung Jung in 2020.
