In the co-main event of UFC 311, Merab Dvalishvili successfully defended his bantamweight title against Umar Nurmagomedov in a grudge match that delivered on its heated buildup.
Both fighters, wary of each other’s grappling abilities, opted for striking exchanges early in the fight. Nurmagomedov landed a straight left in Round 1 that briefly wobbled Dvalishvili, marking a key moment. He also secured a takedown but failed to capitalize.
The tide shifted in Round 3, as Dvalishvili turned up the pace with relentless takedown attempts and volume striking. Nurmagomedov struggled with exhaustion, leaving his attacks ineffective.
In the final round, a looping right hand from 'The Machine' stunned Nurmagomedov, allowing the champion to secure additional takedowns and dominate the closing minutes. Dvalishvili was awarded a unanimous decision victory, setting a new UFC record with 92 career takedowns, surpassing Georges St-Pierre’s 90.
