Jarred Brooks managed to outperform Cuban wrestler Gustavo Balart in their main event tilt at ONE Fight Night 24 this past weekend. 'The Monkey God' went all out with his takedowns and submission hunting to secure the ONE interim strawweight MMA world title via a rear-naked choke in the first round, but he also admitted that his foe was no pushover.
Brooks had to change his game plan during that short course of a fight, where he initally wanted to show off his improved striking skills in this clash.
In a post-fight interview with ONE Championship, the Indiana native shared how he managed to control the pace and overcome Balart during their fight:

"Gustavo is smaller. I went against Bokang Masunyane and I kind of finished him in a similar fashion. So I knew that the body triangle was going to be there and that we would find that. But at the same time. I mean, his clinch game is really, really good."
Inevitably, Brooks will now face his old rival Joshua Pacio for the undisputed ONE strawweight MMA world title trilogy once the Filipino superstar recovers from his ACL injury.

Jarred Brooks praised Gustavo Balart's power in their interim title fight
For Jarred Brooks, winning the interim title over a formidable foe such as Gustavo Balart is an accomplishment of its own.
Although he didn't get to showcase his improved striking skills, 'The Monkey God' managed to secure multiple takedowns before ending the fight with first-round submission.
When interviewed after he raised his hands, Brooks shared how his game plan changed during the course of the fight and complimented Balart's dangerous power:
"There's a difference between thinking you're gonna do something and then when you're in the ring it's completely different. He's small but man, that guy has some power. He definitely has power."
