A Hollywood star recently expressed his take on Dana White's criticism of the 2011 MMA-themed movie, 'Warrior'. The actor explained why the movie couldn't strike a chord with White despite portraying a lucid story.

The actor in the discussion here is Frank Grillo, who has appeared in several Hollywood blockbusters, including 'Captain America: Winter Soldier and Purge: Anarchy'. However, 'Warrior' turned out to be unprofitable as the $25 million presentation collected $23.3 million from box offices worldwide.

The 59-year-old silver-screen discussed 'Warrior' and Dana White's opinion about it during his appearance on the latest episode of the Pound 4 Pound podcast. He revealed he had no issues with White's criticism of the movie, but also detailed why the UFC head honcho couldn't relate to it:

"Dana [White] said he hates the fu**ing film [Warrior]. Look, it's not UFC... He hated Warrior, because he said, 'It's impossible [for that kind of story to happen in reality]'. But I'm like, 'You gotta suspend disbelief'. This was the early days of MMA. It's [Warrior is] about the story of this family, and then MMA is the backdrop. But it's a family story."

Frank Grillo won Dana White back with one of his later presentations

A look into Frank Grillo's Hollywood resume shows he has a knack for appearing in movies revolving around action and martial arts. His 2011 bid, 'Warrior', failed to impress audiences and Dana White. However, he won them back with his 2014 martial arts-themed TV series, Kingdom.

The Kingdom franchise also released two more seasons of the series following the success of the first one. It features Jonathan Tucker, Kiele Sanchez, and Nick Jonas in major roles apart from Grillo. In a May 2023 episode of the Inside Of You podcast, Grillo mentioned why 'Kingdom' impressed White, despite being gutted by 'Warrior':

"MMA wasn't really mainstream at that time [in 2011, when Warrior was released]. Dana White hates that movie. Hates it. Because he feels like it's not a good representation of fighters. I did a TV series called 'Kingdom'. He came to the set. He loved that. Because we kinda made that real, we kind of made it like the UFC."
