Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson on Jack Black being unable to walk out with him for the Kevin Holland fight
For years, Stephen 'Wonderboy' Thompson has used the song 'Wonderboy' as his entrance music to his fights. The song was released in 2001 and performed by 'Tenacious D,' a comedy rock duo comprising Jack Black and Kyle Gass.
In July this year, Thompson FaceTimed with Black at the UFC 276 event. Furthermore, in October, 'Wonderboy' finally met the actor/musician. Leading up to Thompson's recent fight, the consensus was that Black would accompany 'Wonderboy' for his entrance walk to the octagon.
However, Black wasn't in attendance for the Thompson-Holland matchup. During a media scrum earlier this week, Thompson had notified the MMA community beforehand that Black would be unable to attend his fight.
Replying to a question about whether he'll change his entrance song since Black wasn't going to accompany him, Thompson emphasized that he's always going to walk out to the 'Wonderboy' theme:
"So, he told me that he was gonna be able to make it out, but then he realized he wasn't going to be able to. He hit me up a few days ago and was like, 'Hey, not going to be able to make it out there, but I will be watching you from California.' I was like, 'No worries, man. You do your thing.' So, it's pretty cool that he was thinking about me, especially enough to actually get in touch with me and let me know. But it's just really cool to be able to meet one of my all-time greatest actors and musicians."
