The MMA community is showing support for Dustin Poirier as he recovers from undisclosed issues in the hospital.
Poirier emerged as a superstar after his latest five-fight stretch that included a war against Dan Hooker, two wins against Conor McGregor, and a must-see fight against Michael Chandler.
‘The Diamond’ is now fighting outside of the octagon. He had this to say on Twitter:
“Going on day 2 in the hospital. S**ts getting serious”

Although Poirier receives negativity from McGregor fans, most of the MMA community respects 'The Diamond'. The comment section of the concerned tweet was filled with support:
“Hope its nothing major. Heal up quick champ.”
“Wishing you a speedy, swift, and full recovery Dustin get well soon“
“Sending the positive vibes, my guy“
“Hope you start feeling better soon Dustin! Hope all gets well“
“Prayers for a fast recovery champ“
Concerns began to spiral out of control due to the lack of details about Poirier's illness. Luckily, ESPN MMA’s Brett Okamoto learned some information about Poirier’s hospitalization. The MMA reporter had this to say:
“Some context on Dustin Poirier’s (@DustinPoirier) IG posts about being hospitalized… Told me it’s staph, but he’s not responding to antibiotics over the last 24 hours. Undergoing further blood work now, hopefully get some answers today.”
Conor McGregor reacts to Dustin Poirier being hospitalized
Conor McGregor seems interested in not burning bridges.
‘The Notorious’ lost his last two fights against Dustin Poirier in 2021. He also suffered a gruesome leg injury last time out against Poirier at UFC 264. Sitting against the fence after the fight was called off, McGregor went on to disrespect Poirier's wife, who was also present in the octagon.
Once Brett Okamoto shared some details of 'The Diamond's hospitalization, McGregor commented:
“Heal up soon scruffy knickers”
Dustin Poirier hilariously responded with a pun, referencing the allegations of steroid use by the Irishman and the 'Roadhouse' remake, a movie McGregor is set to feature in. He said:
“You done filming Roid House and ready to get slapped around again!?”
McGregor ended their Twitter exchange with this comment:
“Ye, I’m in Amsterdam jacked like [Jean Claude] Van Damn. You weren’t just hurt pal. You were scared hurt, don’t forget it. I’m coming back to put you in a box. Full of it. I’m sending you off this earth. Permanent. Stay waiting for the roadhouse [movie] as well pal you and the missus will love it.”
McGregor announced that he will rejoin the USADA testing pool in February 2023. The protocol requires six months of drug testing before a fighter is cleared, but ‘The Notorious’ hopes to get an exemption from USADA.
From their Twitter interaction, it’s likely that the two are now frenemies.
