At ONE on Prime Video 4, Jonathan Haggerty returns to the circle after a year full of setbacks. With two cancelled fights due to illness, ‘The General’ is set for a new challenge that has changed his preparations.
The former flyweight champion will make his bantamweight debut on November 18, taking on Russia’s Vladimir Kuzmin. Jonathan Haggerty has been out of competition since February but will return at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Whilst the move to bantamweight came as a surprise to many, Haggerty has been relishing the opportunity to face a new set of contenders and the changes to his fight camp.
Speaking to ONE Championship, ‘The General’ explained how his preparations have changed for the better:

“You know, my body felt great, but when I started putting on a sweat suit in the last sort of two weeks I just started to deteriorate and the motivation was gone. But I'm feeling healthy now. And hopefully it will show in November.”
Haggerty was unable to compete in the ONE flyweight Muay Thai world Grand Prix due to his illness struggles. After missing out on the quarter finals in May, Haggerty received an alternate bout in August that he once again had to pull out of.
With his health issues in check and a whole new weight class to try and conquer, the return of Jonathan Haggerty is sure to be unmissable.
“I still think there's unfinished business” - Jonathan Haggerty could alternate between flyweight and bantamweight
Since debuting with ONE Championship in 2019, Jonathan Haggerty has been a staple of the flyweight division in Muay Thai. At ONE on Prime Video 4, ‘The General’ will make his bantamweight debut.
Whilst the change in weight classes may have been motivated by his recent health issues, which have kept him out of competition since February, there is another bonus in competing at bantamweight.
The former flyweight king now has a whole new set of challenges in front of him and has even spoken about potentially alternating between the two weight classes.
In an interview with ONE Championship, ‘The General’ spoke about how his move to bantamweight doesn’t rule out a return to his former weight class:
“I feel that I left flyweight on top. I still think there's unfinished business, who knows, I might go from flyweight to bantamweight and keep going up and down. I'm not too sure yet. I'm going to see how the bantamweight division goes for me first. I’m just going to take it step by step.”
First things first, Jonathan Haggerty must face Russian striker Vladimir Kuzmin on his bantamweight debut before thinking about competing at multiple weights.
A big win over Kuzmin, who is 1-1 inside the circle, would push Haggerty right into the frame for a shot at the bantamweight Muay Thai world champion, Nong-O Gaiyanghadao.
