Aljamain Sterling has posted a recent photo preparing for yet another octagon outing as a featherweight and some were baffled he could ever make the limit for bantamweight. Sterling will have his next contest at 145 pounds at UFC 307. This takes place on Oct. 5 as the former UFC bantamweight champion will clash with the undefeated MMA pro, Movsar Evolev.

Sterling posted some photographs to his Instagram page in boxing gloves stating that he would catch his next opponent in his traps. Several combat sports aficionados on Instagram gathered in the comment section, including a former UFC veteran, to have their say on Sterling's hulking frame that was on display.

Aljamain Sterling's bantamweight title reign and transition to featherweight

Aljamain Sterling captured UFC bantamweight gold inauspiciously after winning it via disqualification after receiving an illegal knee while grounded. This happened in the fourth round of his UFC 259 fight with Petr Yan in March 2021.

The two would rematch with Sterling defending the belt via split decision and garnering a win not nearly as clouded by controversy. This Yan sequel transpired at UFC 273 in April 2022.

The 35-year-old then defeated one of the most prolific bantamweight titleholders in UFC history in October of that calendar year. Sterling would halt TJ Dillashaw with strikes in the second round of their UFC 280 bout for what was the second title defense of his reign.

The third defense of Sterling's championship tenure took place against a former UFC champ at both 125 pounds and 135 pounds, Henry Cejudo. This took place in the UFC 288 headliner with Sterling winning by way of a unanimous decision in May 2023. Aljamain Sterling would lose his hold on the gold a few months later and dropped the strap to the present-day champion of the weight category.

Sean O'Malley would finish Sterling with strikes early on in the second round of their August 2023 fight at UFC 292. 'Funk Master' would take part in multiple grappling contests following the night he dropped his 135-pound belt and made plans to return to MMA at 145 pounds.

This would take place for Sterling in April of this year where he defeated Calvin Kattar at UFC 300 in one of the more dominant performances of the night.

The native of New York State looks to follow up that performance by besting the number six ranked featherweight contender Movsar Evloev in the coming months.
