UK Muay Thai superstar Liam Harrison explained how his nickname ‘Hitman’ stuck all these years.

Harrison’s violent and fast-paced fighting style embodies his nickname, ‘Hitman’; and as the saying goes, the fighter never picks a name for himself - the fans do. Building up his resume in both the UK and Thailand, ‘Hitman’ was known to be an efficient finisher with a never-ending gas tank.

Not to be confused with legendary UK boxer Ricky ‘The Hitman’ Hatton, Liam Harrison is in a class of his own.

Speaking about the origins of his nickname, Harrison told The MMA Superfan:

“I never chose the name ‘Hitman’ for me. When I was a young guy, I was about, I started fighting professionally when I was 14, 15 and on my first 10 fights I had nine wins, one draw and five or six knockouts and four of them came in round 1."

He added:

"So one of the guys from my gym goes ‘Oh Hitman Harrison’ does it again, and it just stuck then from there. ‘Hitman Harrison’, ‘Hitman’.”

The Muay Thai veteran is currently on the mend following an ACL and meniscus surgery back in January. The unprecedented news of his future absence from fights sent major shockwaves across the combat sports community since he was scheduled to fight in three major bouts this year.

The first was to take place at ONE Fight Night 6 on Prime Video against Thailand’s Pongsiri PK Saenchai. Then, a potential exhibition match against legendary American boxer Floyd Mayweather in February followed by a possible rematch against Nong-O Hama for the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title.

However, Liam Harrison assured fans that he’s ahead of schedule in his recovery. So, if everything goes according to plan, he’ll be back this summer.

Liam Harrison says his obsession for Muay Thai kept him from paying attention in class

Liam Harrison lived and breathed martial arts at the age of 13. While all the kids his age dreamed of becoming soccer players, Harrison was thinking about becoming the next big super fighter.

It became clearer as time went on that he was in fact obsessed with this style of martial arts because it was all he could think about.

In a recent video Harrison posted on Instagram, the UK star explained what the exact definition of obsession was for him. With a funny little anecdote about his early school days, Harrison began the clip by saying:

“When I first started training, the teachers talking to me about something. I’m looking at her but I’m not paying attention. In my head, I’m slipping a punch, I’m throwing an elbow, I’m throwing an uppercut.”
