It's always a sorrowful sight when an athlete's family resorts to selling cherished keepsakes due to adversity. Such was the case when Muhammad Ali's son pawned his father's fight jacket that he wore during a photo shoot with Joe Frazier.

Muhammad Ali Jr. walked into the Gold family-owned pawnshop in an episode of 'Hardcore Pawn', a reality show featured on truTV. The 52-year-old walked into the shop identifying as the boxing icon's son, which the Gold family had to thoroughly validate before dealing. They settled on a purchase price of $500 which they sold later for a higher margin.

According to a report by Fox Sports, the owner of the shop confirmed that the whole episode was a deeper story of struggle and it evoked a sense of empathy for the legendary boxer's son. He said:

"His son had fallen on hard times, and this was the last bit of memorabilia he had from his dad. You felt really bad for him because he was quite honest. He said, 'I haven't seen my dad in a really long time, and I just need some money, and this is his robe from this picture.' And to actually see [the photo] of him and Frazier was just unreal. Usually, you need to have some type of authentication with any merchandise that's brought in, but all he had was this picture." [H/t: Fox Sports]

Seth Gold talks about a unique piece of Muhammad Ali memorabilia

Over the years, Les and Seth Gold's pawn shop, American Jewelry and Loan in Detroit, one of the largest and most recognizable pawn shops in the world, has received several sought-after items. However, one in particular stands out according to them.

Speaking in an interaction with Fox Sports, Gold revealed a Muhammad Ali book weighing in at around 75 pounds, was perhaps one of the most unique pieces of memorabilia they had dealt with. He said:

"It was in a huge, gigantic white silk box with pink lettering. We opened it up, and right on top sat a pair of gloves. The seller said we couldn't touch it unless we were wearing these gloves. So I put on the gloves and opened the book to find an envelope that included four iconic gel print photos, all signed by Muhammad Ali."
