Thanh Le is already game-planning for a potential rematch against Tang Kai.

Le successfully defended the ONE Championship featherweight world title once before being dethroned by Tang. The former champion has been motivated to get the rematch, but it hasn’t been confirmed.

Nonetheless, the 37-year-old is making adjustments and preparing to regain the featherweight world championship.

During an interview with FTS MMA, Le reflected on the loss to Tang by saying:

“Yeah, we're trying to figure out what weapons he wanted to use initially. Obviously, the leg kicks were landing early. And then we were trying to stay away from that left side as safely as possible and create what we wanted within our game plan. I always like to mix up the way I move anyway. But we're moving away from that lead hook, which obviously, he's got a great hook. He also has a really dangerous lead leg. So we were game-planning against that.”

The rematch between Le and Tang appears to make the most sense. Garry Tonon and Martin Nguyen are two contenders coming off a loss that could be matched up. Meanwhile, Shamil Gasanov and Ilya Freymanov are 1-0 in ONE Championship and could fight for the number one contender spot.

Thanh Le was surprised by the amount of "running to a different area" from Tang Kai

Tang Kai is a tricky puzzle, considering all seven ONE Championship opponents couldn’t get the job done.

During the same interview, Thanh Le had this to say about being surprised by Tang’s movement:

“He was on his bike a lot. He definitely didn't want to put himself in any dangerous situations and trade punches, because he had a small lead with those leg kicks… I don't want to say sprinting, but the amount of hip bailing and bouncing off the cage and maybe running to a different area, it was a little more than I expected to be honest.”

Whether Le gets the rematch or not, there are several options for his next fight. The former champion has previously mentioned a move to lightweight, where a fresh set of matchups await.

The division switch likely won’t happen, though, until he gets another crack at Tang.
