"I came for blood straight away" - Jonathan Haggerty admits satisfaction after putting trash-talking Mongkolpetch in his place

Jonathan Haggerty found himself in a bit of a strange position after returning to action following a long break that was caused by the pandemic a few years back. The Brit hadn't fought in over a year and despite being one of the top flyweights in the division, he seemingly didn't have much longer in the division due to his issues with the scales.

He had already rebounded from his two classic wars with Rodtang Jitmuangnon by getting his hand raised against Taiki Naito. In his return, Haggerty would leave flyweight behind after one final outing in this division when he took on Mongkolpetch Petchyindee in Feb. 2022.

As he revealed in a recent YouTube video on his channel, this fight became about more than just earning another victory. Haggerty wanted to prove a point in this fight after some of the pre-fight comments that were said about him by his opponent:

"I was fired up for this fight. He talked a good game in recent interviews. I'm not sure if it was him that was speaking like this, or his coaches were telling him this is how he has to speak. But back then, there wasn't really any trash-talking going around toward me, especially now I've got both belts."

He continued:

"First round, I came for blood straight away. I wanted to show him that I was there to fight. I'm not going to be an easy opponent for him, because I'm pretty surprised of myself how fast I started, if I'm honest."

Jonathan Haggerty left flyweight with a statement

Jonathan Haggerty was able to make a statement to Mongkolpetch, his team, and the other flyweight contenders in this fight. His performances were being affected by the fact that he was putting himself through a draining ordeal to compete at flyweight.

Even with that being said, he was able to compete at the top of the weight class before achieving incredible success at bantamweight.

He will look to keep this winning streak going when he returns to headline the Ball Arena on Sept. 6 in a bantamweight Muay Thai title defense against Superlek.
