“I have confidence in myself” - Kwon Won Il intrigued by the idea of a super fight with boxing megastar Ryan Garcia 

Kwon Won Il is intrigued by a "big money" super-fight.

On December 30, boxing superstar Ryan Garcia was scheduled to compete in an exhibition boxing match against kickboxer Rukiya Anpo. Unfortunately, Garcia suffered an injury and was forced to postpone the fight.

Garcia vs. Anpo was supposed to be the latest edition of a crossover bout between two different types of fighters. The concept has ONE lightweight MMA fighter Kwon Won Il interested, which he explained during an interview on 'Anything Goes':

"To be honest, super fights sound the best because that’s where the big money is - the money fight. Guys like Ryan Garcia, you know, crossover…or even [against] other promotions, you know. I believe I will be the best there wherever I go. I have confidence in myself."

Kwon Won Il has fought thirteen times in thirteen MMA bouts under the ONE Championship banner. The 29-year-old holds a promotional record of 9-4, with all of his wins by KO/TKO. Therefore, the South Korean bantamweight could be the perfect candidate to fight a boxer in a crossover bout.

Kwon Won Il has business to take care of before considering super-fights

On January 12, Kwon Won Il knocked out Shinechagtga Zoltsetseg in the second round of their ONE Fight Night 18 meeting. Following his third consecutive win, Kwon has been awarded a title shot in the bantamweight MMA division.

On January 24, 2025, Kwon will have an opportunity to dethrone bantamweight MMA king Fabricio Andrade at ONE 170.

Andrade is coming off an extended layoff after suffering a second-round knockout against Jonathan Haggerty in a November 2023 kickboxing bout. Heading into ONE 170, 'Wonder Boy' has maintained an undefeated promotional MMA record of 6-0, including five wins inside the distance.

This will be the second time that Andrade and Kwon have fought. In June 2022, Andrade defeated the South Korean bantamweight by first-round knockout.

ONE 170 goes down inside the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand. The upcoming event featuring at least three world title fights can be seen live and for free by North American viewers with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
