It was arguably the biggest win of his career, but Jonathan Haggerty initially struggled to comprehend how he beat the legendary Nong-O Hama in Bangkok.

Haggerty, a former ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion, challenged the Thai icon for the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title at ONE Fight Night 9 in a fight that was seen as a massive leap for the British superstar.

'The General' was a massive underdog during the April 2023 showdown, but what transpired inside the hallowed Lumpinee Stadium became the stuff of British sporting legend.

Haggerty didn't just beat Nong-O, but he knocked him down three times with the third one ultimately sending the Muay Thai legend to the shadow realm.

In his career retrospect on his YouTube channel, the now-ONE bantamweight Muay Thai and kickboxing world champion admitted that he was surprised to see Nong-O fall three times during their match.

Jonathan Haggerty said on the clip that ONE Championship shared on Instagram:

"I think he underestimated me. When I landed the first right hand, it dropped him and hit him in the back of the ear. Believe it or not, that is where we were aiming to hit Nong-O. When it landed, I just looked and I thought 'He's down.' I couldn't believe it, I just couldn't believe he went down."

After his fight against Nong-O, Haggerty reached champ-champ status when he knocked out bantamweight MMA king Fabricio Andrade for the vacant ONE bantamweight kickboxing world title at ONE Fight Night 16.

Jonathan Haggerty puts the bantamweight Muay Thai throne on the line against Superlek in Denver

Jonathan Haggerty has since defended the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title once when he knocked Felipe Lobo out at ONE Fight Night 19 this past February.

Nearly seven months after his first world title defense, Haggerty will figure in another super fight when he defends his bantamweight Muay Thai strap against ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion Superlek Kiatmoo9.

The champion-versus-champion showdown goes down at ONE 168: Denver on September 6 at Ball Arena in Colorado.

Tickets for ONE 168 are available at Ticketmaster.
