Sydney Sweeney recently shared a heartwarming tribute to Christy Martin after wrapping filming for the American boxing legend's yet-to-be-named biopic. The Hollywood star called the experience "one of the most emotional, transformative experiences" of her life and lauded Martin's tenacity as a boxer.
Martin was among the most well-known boxers in the 1990s and held the WBC female super welterweight title in 2009. 'The Female Rocky' competed professionally from 1989 to 2012 and racked up an impressive 49-7-3 record.
Given her accomplishments, Martin was unsurprisingly the first female boxer to be inducted into the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame in 2016. Additionally, she is widely credited for legitimizing women's boxing in America.
In an Instagram post, Sweeney paid tribute to Martin and opened up about her experience recreating the boxing legend's character in front of the cameras. Sweeney wrote:

"I don’t usually write a lot in my captions, but this movie and experience I feel need more than just a few words. We have wrapped filming Christy Martin’s story and it has been one of the most emotional, transformative experiences of my life. Christy’s journey is so deeply inspiring, and having her by my side during this process was nothing short of surreal. There were moments on set where I’d glance over at her standing by the monitors, cheering us on, and I’d just become so emotional."
Sweeney continued:
"This story is so much bigger than just a film. It’s a testament to resilience, survival, and finding the strength to keep fighting."
Sweeney's powerful words seemingly struck a chord with UFC superstar Conor McGregor, and her post earned a like from the Irishman.

When Sydney Sweeney opened up about her body transformation for Christy Martin biopic
Earlier this year, Sydney Sweeney opened up about going through a body transformation process to portray Christy Martin in her biopic. The Hollywood star detailed her combat sports background and outlined how Martin's story inspired her.
Speaking to Deadline, Sweeney pointed out that 'The Female Rocky' had a "physically and emotionally demanding" story and said:
"I grappled and did kickboxing from 12-19 years old. I’ve been itching to get back into the ring, train, and transform my body. Christy’s story isn’t a light one; it’s physically and emotionally demanding, and there’s a lot of weight to carry. But I love challenging myself." [H/t: Deadline]
