Reigning ONE lightweight Muay Thai world champion and former lightweight kickboxing king 'The Immortal' Regian Eersel of Suriname and The Netherlands has expressed interest in joining the ranks of the elite in mixed martial arts competition.

He's seen how MMA fighters strike and he's not impressed.

Speaking to MMA UK in a recent interview, Eersel says that if he ever found himself in a stand-up war in the cage with an MMA fighter, watch out.

'The Immortal' said:

"Sometimes I watch MMA fights, and I'm thinking, like, this guy's striker, he doesn't do takedowns, and, yeah, it's practically almost a kickboxing match. And I'm like, if I get guys like this in a cage, I would destroy them."

The former two-sport striking titleholder Eersel is set to do battle with now-reigning ONE lightweight kickboxing kingpin 'Barboza' Alexis Nicolas in a much-anticipated rematch for ONE gold.

The two lock horns at ONE Fight Night 25: Nicolas vs. Eersel II on Prime Video, which broadcasts live from the historic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on Friday, Oct. 4.

Fans in the United States and Canada can catch all the action live and absolutely free on Amazon Prime Video. Stay tuned to Sportskeeda MMA for all the latest news and updates surrounding the event.

Regian Eersel expresses gratitude toward ONE Championship for allowing him to headline big cards: "It's one thing to be proud of"

'The Immortal' Regian Eersel is thankful to be counted among the very best in the world's largest martial arts organization, and he can't thank ONE Championship enough.

Just a few weeks before he heads to the ring, Eersel thanked the promotion for the trust they have placed in him.

'The Immortal' told MMA UK:

"For me, it's almost normal, but for most of the fighters, it's not normal to fight in the main event. But yeah, every time somebody reminds me of it, I'm thinking like, yeah, I'm fighting the main event each time. And it's one thing to be proud of and I'm definitely proud of myself and of my team, of course, my trainers, my coaches. You see, hard work pays off. And yeah, you see it in me."
