Gustavo Balart is going all out to be the next ONE strawweight MMA world champion. At ONE Fight Night 24, Balart will face a tough challenge in the form of former divisional ruler Jarred Brooks when they clash for the interim world title on Friday night, August 2, in U.S. primetime.
'El Gladiador' realizes that his next fight will bring high stakes, and the former Olympic wrestler is determined to overcome all of these challenges to produce only one outcome: to become the next ONE world champion in his division.
He shared his thoughts with ONE ahead of his main event tilt against Brooks inside the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand:

"Personally, I don’t care about names. I want to be a champion and I will go after whoever is the champion. Could be him, could be another fighter, but he is the one with the belt and that is why I must face him."
He added:
"It is nothing personal. I just want to be the new ONE Championship title holder."
Indeed, both Balart and Brooks have a massive opportunity to claim the gold, but they are also extremely focused on securing a potential matchup against the divisional king, Joshua Pacio.
Gustavo Balart is knocking at the door of an ultimate comeback story
Although riding on a four-fight winning streak, Gustavo Balart did not have a smooth start in his ONE Championship tenure.
He suffered three losses in his early days with the organization in the hands of strong foes like Tatsumitsu Wada, Chan Rothana, and Robin Catalan.
Nonetheless, he successfully bounced back and climbed the divisional ranks, where the No.3-ranked contender is now set to claim his biggest victory and the ONE interim strawweight MMA world title over American superstar Jarred Brooks.
But this will not be easy against Brooks, who is looking for a way to bounce back and reclaim the golden belt he once held by taking out any contenders in his path.
