Tom Aspinall was able to defend his interim heavyweight title for the first time when he defeated Curtis Blaydes via first-round TKO in the co-main event of UFC 304. Following the victory, he reiterated his desire to attempt to unify the belt against undisputed heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Daniel Cormier, who shared one of the most heated rivalries in mixed martial arts history with 'Bones', recently questioned if his long-time rival can beat Aspinall. Speaking to his co-host Chael Sonnen on the Good Guy / Bad Guy Podcast, the UFC Hall of Famer claimed that the No.1-ranked heavyweight should have been more disrespectful in his post-fight call-out before adding:
"That was the only thing that I could do to give him a negative grade on last weekend, but ultimately, Chael, I believe that we are looking at the best heavyweight on the planet because I don't know, man, if Jon Jones will beat this guy, but I will not be quick to say Jon Jones is afraid of him or that it is a foregone conclusion that he beats Jon because I've been in there with Jones."
The former double champ continued:

"I know how tough he is, I know how smart he is and I know how much he loves to compete and if you love to compete as much as that guy does, he can never be counted out of a fight."

Jones appears set to return to the octagon at UFC 309 in November when he defends his heavyweight title for the first time against Stipe Miocic. The pair had originally been set to clash at UFC 295 last November, however, 'Bones' was forced to withdraw from the bout after tearing the tendon that connects the pectoral muscle to the bone. The injury allowed Aspinall to claim the interim heavyweight title as he defeated Sergei Pavlovich via first-round knockout at UFC 295.
Jon Jones shares cryptic response to Tom Aspinall
Tom Aspinall has not been shy about his desire to face Jon Jones with the undisputed heavyweight title on the line. While 'Bones' had originally been set to retire after facing Stipe Miocic, he has suggested that he could delay those plans.
The heavyweight champion took to X on Sunday to seemingly respond to Aspinall's call-out, stating:
"Supply and demand at its finest, I love it."
