42-year-old Brazilian jiu-jitsu legend Marcelo Garcia made a triumphant comeback to professional competition last weekend at ONE 170 in Bangkok, proving strong in the face of stomach cancer to step inside the Circle for the first time.
Garcia joined the world's largest martial arts organization in late 2024 and then debuted for ONE Championship shortly after.
The Brazilian icon took on Japanese MMA and grappling legend Masakazu Imanari at the historic ONE 170 and scored a submission victory via north-south choke after a dominant performance.

After the fight, Garcia told Mitch Chilson:
"Let me just share one thing - if you got a problem, you got to share your problem. You got to let people know you have a problem. I did this, and I got so much love from everyone around me. So if you have a problem, let people know what’s going on, because that’s the only way you can get help. That’s what I did and I got so much love."
ONE 170 was broadcast live from the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand last Friday, Jan. 24. Fans in the United States and Canada can catch a replay free on-demand via watch.onefc.com.
Marcelo Garcia says it's important to have a strong support system: "Share your problems if you have a problem"
Marcelo Garcia feels that no matter how strong you are, it's important to lean on others and share your problems. He said:
"A lot of people asked me why I told everybody, I was like because if I don’t tell anybody, nobody will know who I am. I was somebody who was going through that, and people didn’t know I was going through that. And I got so much love. Do share your problems. People need to know, people that love you are going to be next to you no matter what and they’re going to be the first ones to help you. So share your problems if you have a problem."
