“I hope they can remember his name” - Francis Ngannou’s crying tribute to his late son Kobe after PFL victory in Riyadh

Francis Ngannou failed to hold back his tears as he remembered his deceased son Kobe after defeating Renan Ferreira at the main event of PFL Super Fights: Battle of the Giants. 'The Predator's' interview also had him expressing his desire for his late son to be remembered by fight fans.

The main event of PFL Super Fights: Battle of the Giants was a one-sided affair. However, the state to which Ngannou went after his victory hasn't been witnessed by MMA fans. He broke down in tears commemorating his deceased son, Kobe, during his in-cage interview. Kobe was only 15 months old when he passed away on April 27 this year.

A tweet from @acdmma_ showcased Ngannou vocalizing his hope towards the combat sports world remembering Kobe:

"I can’t think of anything [other] than my son Kobe. I took this fight because of him, I wanted to fight for him. I don't know, but I hope they can remember his name. Because without Kobe, I wouldn't be here tonight, I wouldn't have fight [fought]."

The PFL Super Fights: Battle of the Giants main event began with both Ngannou and Ferreira trading low kicks, where the Cameroonian's strikes appeared to have more impact. However, Ngannou didn't waste much time in this exchange and decided to take the fight to the ground soon after.

Ferreira couldn't do enough to save himself as he got taken down by his rival at the 1:02 mark of the first round. Ngannou proved to be far superior to his Brazilian rival on the ground as well.

The former UFC heavyweight king made good use of his top mount to gain control over Ferreira's back and eventually finished the fight with ground-and-pound at the 3:30 mark of the first round. Ngannou's pro-MMA record advanced to 18-3 with this victory while Ferreira's stats dropped to 13-4.
