And the Brazilian grappling phenom couldn't have executed it any better when they squared off in ONE Fight Night 24 co-main event last Friday, Aug. 2.
The nine-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion bagged a couple of positional advantages during the second half of their single-round tie, bringing the fire to the Silver Fox BJJ athlete, who enjoyed early success and a catch to push herself into the lead.

However, once Bastos had her foe's number, it looked more and more as if an upset was inevitable.
In the end, the 26-year-old's pressure and late catch impressed all the judges at ringside as she laid her hands on the coveted ONE atomweight submission grappling world title and a hefty US$50,000 performance bonus.
Looking back at her ability to turn the tide and claim the win, Bastos had this to say to Mitch Chilson during the in-ring post-fight interview:
"I knew that she started the fight aggressively, so I was just trying to keep up my aggression as well."
Bastos' win inside the Mecca of Muay Thai moved her to 2-0 under the ONE banner after dispatching Kanae Yamada in her debut.
