UFC legend Frankie Edgar criticized those who linked his drone sightings to brain damage from his professional MMA career. Concerns about the health impacts of prizefighting, particularly related to Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), have grown in recent years. However, CTE is often misused to undermine fighters' opinions.
In a recent episode of the Champ and The Tramp podcast, which aired on Dec. 21, 2024, Edgar shared that he and his wife saw several drones during their visit to a waterfront restaurant.
"Eight of them came in in less than an hour that we were sitting there, eight of them! This thing is all over. So I'm on Twitter [X], and I'm like, 'Bro, what's up with these drones, man? This is getting out of hand...'"
Edgar stated that some people in the comments section mocked his remarks as "mass hysteria." The MMA veteran explained that his attempts to present a counterargument were met with criticism related to CTE on social media. He said:

"I [wrote] like, 'I'm looking at [the drones] with my own eyes.' [And some people responded] 'Yeah, okay bud, CTE, buddy, CTE!' That's what these f* people say. I wish I could [do something about it]... I just gave him the thumbs up. I'm not arguing with dumb f* people. You can't argue with dumb people. Because they're too dumb to realize."

When Frankie Edgar shared his thoughts on MMA being safer for brain health heading into his last UFC title fight
Frankie Edgar, recognized as one of the toughest fighters of all time, has endured many intense fights throughout his storied MMA career, which have raised concerns among some fans about his long-term health.
Before his canceled UFC 222 featherweight title fight against Max Holloway, Edgar shared his thoughts on brain damage in MMA and other contact sports during an interview with veteran journalist Kevin Iole. Edgar said:
"I do think MMA is safer than both football and boxing. I just think the medicals and just the way they stop fights. In boxing, you get rocked, you get an eight count. They ask you, ‘are you good to fight?’ You're a fighter, you're going to say,’Yes, I’m good to fight.’ [MMA fighters], we don’t get that chance. We get rocked, we don’t get a chance to come back. Our brain shuts off and the ref stops it. So I think that’s a little bit safer."
