For Nico Carrillo, it's always best to stay present in the moment when it comes to accomplishing his career goals.

As a self-driven individual, of course, the No.2-ranked bantamweight Muay Thai contender does see beyond what's next at times.

But the emphasis is always on keeping his focus on what's next rather than things that will happen in the unforeseeable future.

Speaking on the Leather'd Podcast recently, Nico Carrilo shared:

"My approach, I'm an all eggs in one basket kinda guy. Single-minded. Absolutely. And that's how anybody successful in life, get successful, you know. They're really good at one thing. That goal."

That single-minded approach has massively helped 'King of the North' on his way to an impressive 27-3 run in his career, including four successive knockouts against Furkan Karabag, Muangthai PK Saenchai, Nong-O Hama, and Saemapetch Fairtex in ONE Championship.

He now hopes it'll come in handy again as he squares off against the toughest test of his career at ONE 170 on Jan. 24.

The Deachkalek Muay Thai Academy star meets two-division, two-sport ONE world champion Superlek Kiatmoo9 in a ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title fixture inside the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.

Sure, the Thai megastar will be a favorite to walk out of the venue with his gold. But history suggests that Nico Carrillo could well leave the Thai capital with 26 pounds of gold in his suitcase.

ONE 170 will be available to active Amazon Prime Video subscribers in North America live in U.S. primetime for free on Friday, Jan. 24.

Nico Carrillo confident he can scale to similar heights as Rodtang had done in Thailand

As impressive as Nico Carrillo's run has been in ONE Championship, there are not many superstars on the roster who have taken the sport of Muay Thai to unprecedented heights as Rodtang Jitmuangnon has.

'The Iron Man' enjoyed a six-year stint as the ONE flyweight Muay Thai world champion, and his attack-only approach and in-ring antics have made him an internationally recognized talent in "The Art of Eight Limbs."

Nico Carrillo, however, believes he can become the face of the sport in Europe if he continues his hot streak on the global stage. That said, he knows he can never match Rodtang's star power in Thailand.

In the same interview, he added:

"Well, I will be THE face. Well, it's hard to compete with Rodtang cause he's such a big star. He's out in Asia. He's their guy. But for our side of the world, absolutely. Like you're never going to be as big as Rodtang in Thailand, or Superlek in Thailand, or Tawanchai in Thailand."
