Former ONE lightweight kickboxing world champion Regian Eersel knows that upcoming opponent and reigning divisional king Alexis Nicolas is on a high after ascending to the throne in their title match earlier this year and staying unbeaten in his pro career. However, he intends to have the Frenchman come back to Earth with a victory in their rematch this week.
'The Immortal', who is still the lightweight Muay Thai champion, is out to reclaim the kickboxing gold and return as a double world champion at ONE Fight Night 25: Nicolas vs. Eersel II on Oct. 4 in Thailand.
In an interview with ONE Championship in connection with the marquee title rematch happening at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok and airing live and for free to North American fans with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription, Regian Eersel shared his plans come fight night against the 16-0 Nicolas, saying:
"Oh, I just want to show the fans a good fight like I always do, going for the kill, but now in a smarter way. And I'm going to show him that he's beatable. You know, show the world that he's beatable."

Regian Eersel admitted that he struggled against Nicolas in their first title match in April, unable to fully get his game going and even being sent to the canvas in the second round with a solid overhand right. While he still had his bright moments through the course of the five-rounder, they were not enough to sway the judges' scorecards his way.
Before losing the kickboxing belt, the Surinamese-Dutch fighter successfully defended it four times after winning it in May 2019.
Regian Eersel blasts Alexis Nicolas for playing it safe the first time they met
Alexis Nicolas topped Regian Eersel in their first encounter for the ONE lightweight kickboxing world title but the latter was left unimpressed, believing that the French fighter played it safe on his way to the win. It is something that 'The Immortal' intends to make him pay for in their rematch at ONE Fight Night 25 on Oct. 4.
He talked about it with ONE Championship in an interview, underscoring that they reviewed the fight after and were convinced that a rematch was necessary as 'Barboza' was not totally convincing in the victoiry.
The 31-year-old Sityodtong Amsterdam standout said:
"I asked for an immediate rematch because I rewatched the fight with my team and we came to the conclusion that we have to do it again. You cannot win against a champion like that with only a one-point difference. And that's why we asked for the rematch."
The defeat to Nicolas last time around was the first for Eersel in 11 matches in ONE Championship.
