Jarred Brooks has always been confident that he is the best fighter in the strawweight MMA division.

He has been able to prove this point time and time again since signing with ONE Championship where he has taken out many of the top competitors at his weight class.

After losing his title in unfortunate circumstances at ONE 166, Brooks was looking to secure a third fight with Joshua Pacio to try and reclaim the gold.

With the champion out with a substantial injury, 'The Monkey God' is now set to compete for the interim title against Gustavo Balart.

Brooks' confidence cannot be chalked down as overconfidence and he certainly isn't looking past an opponent like Balart.

His opponent brings extensive wrestling pedigree and powerful striking which makes him a dangerous opponent for anyone in the weight class.

In a recent interview with the South China Morning Post ahead of ONE Fight Night 24, the former champion spoke about keeping his wits about him in this contest:

"I'm going to keep my space. I'm going to understand where he's at at all times. And I have a target and I got to knock it down."

Jarred Brooks is well prepared for Gustavo Balart

Jarred Brooks knows what to expect from an opponent like Gustavo Balart despite not crossing paths with him before.

When he steps inside Lumpinee Stadium on August 2, he knows that Balart is a serious threat that he can't afford to look past.

Before he can get carried away with thoughts of meeting Pacio once again and unifying the titles, he must solve a complicated puzzle in order to become the interim champion.

Brooks has never been short on motivation and proving himself to be the best despite what happened last time out has got his fire burning even brighter.

ONE Fight Night 24 will air live in US Primetime, free of charge for Prime Video subscribers in the United States and Canada.
