Scottish knockout maestro Nico Carrillo is closing in on a chance of a lifetime. And he's getting complete by the day as the moment of truth unfolds on Jan. 24.
'King of the North' squares off alongside two-sport king 'The Kicking Machine' Superlek Kiatmoo9 for his ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world title at ONE 170 inside the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand.
During an in-studio interview with Sky Sports, the Deachkalek Muay Thai Academy athlete had this to say on the preparation that he's undertaken for this moment:
"Honestly, everything. I just seem to level up kind of every fight. And understanding my body is a big thing. How hard I can push it so far out, [to increase the] levels of fitness. I'm improving everywhere."

Improvement has been a permanent fixture through Carrillo's meteoric rise under the ONE spotlight. The 26-year-old has been on an absolute tear (4-0) since donning the four-ounce gloves for the first time in April last year.
The knockouts have come, fast and furious, against Furkan Karabag, Muangthai PK Saenchai, Nong-O Hama, and Saemapetch Fairtex.
Put simply, when 'King of the North' connects, opponents go to sleep. He hopes that will be the case once more in his world title fixture against Superlek at ONE 170, though the odds are massively stacked against him.
It's hard to diminish Nico Carrillo's chances against Superlek
Beating Superlek will be no child's play, but Nico Carrillo's perfect run in the promotion sends out a very clear message: Never count him out.
The No. 2-ranked bantamweight contender has been knocking down opponents for fun in search of the biggest prize in Muay Thai, and you can be sure that he'll be firing on all cylinders when the moment arrives.
Besides relying on his trademark power, Carrillo can put his height and reach advantage to good use and land heavy steps and kicks from the outside when the divisional king does decide to close the distance.
If he succeeds in doing so, the path to the crown will be much clearer. Whether or not he can land a clinical blow past Superlek's near-impenetrable defense remains to be seen.
However, as history suggests, the watching world can expect him to entertain when he stars in the ONE 170 co-main event on Friday, Jan. 24.
