When Derek Brunson revealed the reason for leaving the UFC
Derek Brunson had a long run in the UFC, comprising 21 fights in 11 years. His rivals include top names like Robert Whittaker, Anderson Silva, Israel Adesanya, and Dricus du Plessis. After losing to Du Plessis at UFC 285 by a second-round TKO, Brunson quit the UFC to join the PFL.
'The One' revealed the reason behind his exit from the UFC in an interview with MMA Junkie Radio:
"They got the million-dollar tournament, guys stay busy, there's no lobbying for what you want. You go out and get it, so like...UFC, man, if some of these title eliminators, I was on these huge five-fight winning streaks twice and I never got a title shot."
He added:
"I was kinda like right after the fight that I felt, 'Okay, I win this when I get a title shot,' and I didn't get it, I kinda felt dejected and lacked motivation."
