Progress is all that matters for Jarred Brooks as he makes his return at ONE Fight Night 24.
Just a year back, 'The Monkey God' found himself at the top of the stacked division, having claimed the ONE strawweight MMA world championship in dominant fashion over Joshua Pacio at ONE 164 in Manila.
It was a reward he had been chasing since he inked a deal with the world's largest martial arts organization and three impressive displays over Lito Adiwang (submission), Hiroba Minowa, and Bokang Masunyane (submission).
Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse when he crossed paths with Pacio again at ONE 166: Qatar this past March. An unintentional spike to the head forced the Mash Fight Team representative to surrender his goal via disqualification inside the sold-out Lusail Sports Arena.

As heartbroken as he was, Jarred Brooks believes that his latest setback was much-needed.
After taking time to take a break, focus on his family, and upgrade his arsenal during his fight camp, the top-ranked contender is ready to return with fire to claim the ONE interim strawweight MMA world title that will be on the line due to Pacio's injury.
Speaking to Sports Illustrated, the 31-year-old noted:
"I took a step back because of that [fight against Joshua Pacio]. Now I'm ready to take three steps forward."
Find out if he can succeed in his mission by tuning in to ONE Fight Night 24, which goes down inside the iconic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, this Friday, August 2.
Only Jarred Brooks will be eligible to win gold after Balart's weigh-in drama
Jarred Brooks will be the only man eligible to win the 26 pounds of gold on offer, as Gustavo Balart failed to pass hydration or make weight during yesterday's official weigh-in day for ONE Fight Night 24.
'El Gladiador' did pass hydration after the end of the window, though. However, he was still 6.75 pounds overweight, which means the fight will now proceed at a catchweight of 126 pounds.
Regardless, fans should still be in for a banger of a contest featuring two highly skilled athletes who are eager to leave it all inside the Mecca of Muay Thai on August 2.
