Denice Zamboanga made history for the Philippines at ONE Fight Night 27, and she did so with some bonus style points. 'The Menace' captured the interim ONE atomweight MMA world championship last Friday by grounding and pounding her way to a second-round stoppage victory over the tough Alyona Rassohyna.
It was an incredible feat for the Philippines' first female MMA world champion, who exuded brilliance in both striking and grappling exchanges against her Ukrainian adversary.
Apart from receiving a cool $50,000 bonus for her fine handiwork, Zamboanga also took great pride in accomplishing something that atomweight MMA world champion Stamp Fairtex couldn't.

"She fought Stamp before and Stamp didn’t finish her, but I made a statement by finishing her," Zamboanga said in her post-event interview with The Bangkok Post.
Stamp fought Rassohyna twice in the home of martial arts. The no.4 ranked contender turned a lot of heads when she handed the Thai superstar her first career MMA loss in their initial meeting.
The three-sport queen got even in the rematch, though it wasn't as decisive as she'd hoped it'd be following a razor-close split decision verdict.
Meanwhile, Zamboanga certainly erased all doubts by taking the judges out of the equation with an awe-inspiring TKO victory over Rassohyna.
