Mike Tyson gave an unexpected reaction to boxer Bruce Carrington reciting his infamous callout of Lennox Lewis. Following a first-round KO of Lou Saverese in 2000, Tyson had called out Lewis while making several questionable remarks.

Speaking at the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson pre-fight press conference, Carrington seamlessly recreated a portion of the speech, saying:

"I'm the best ever, there's never been anybody as ruthless. I'm Sonny Liston, I'm Jack Dempsey, there's nobody like me. There's no one that can match me. My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable and I'm just ferocious. I want to eat his children. Praise be to God!"

Ariel Helwani asked Tyson to share his thoughts on Carrington's statement. The boxing legend seemingly disapproved of his own past behavior and jokingly responded:

When Mike Tyson reflected on 'eat his children' remarks

Mike Tyson's passionate but controversial post-fight interview did its part and helped sell the fight against Lennox Lewis. While the 'eat his children' remarks suited well with the boxing legend's public image at the time, 'Iron' Mike has come a long way.

In an episode of Hotboxin' with Mike Tyson podcast that aired in May 2023, Tyson reflected on his comments and said:

"I was carried away, sometimes."

He added:

"I'm an entertainer, man. Yeah, like, 50 Cent is a nice guy but he acts like he is a murderer. I know that's the way he hides his heart and tries like, 'You motherf***er I'll kill you.' But if you tell him he's a nice guy, he might shoot you. Everybody wants their image because they don't want to bein that position [they were in] before when they were vulnerable to motherf****rs."

Nearly 15 years after retirement, Tyson returned to action in an exhibition bout against Roy Jones in November 2020. He will grace the boxing ring once again as he takes on Jake Paul in a professional boxing match on Nov. 15. While Tyson seems motivated to fight, his promotional tactics are a far cry from the ones used against Lewis 24 years ago.
