“I needed to have a good mindset” - Mayssa Bastos on dealing with defeat in her career

Although Mayssa Bastos has accomplished many things beyond everyone else's expectations, she also dealt with tough losses in her career.

As she heads into the ONE atomweight submission grappling world title match against reigning queen Danielle Kelly at ONE Fight Night 24, Bastos recalled those hard moments that made her who she is today.

Despite all the losses, the decorated world champion was able to pick herself up every single time, thanks to her determination and always-evolving mindset.

When asked about what is the biggest challenge to live a life out of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the 26-year-old told ONE Championship:

"I think the biggest difficulty was when I lost a fight, because I needed to have a good mindset to come back and continue working."

Getting back up might not be the easiest thing to do for anyone, but with an impressive record of 115-12 throughout her career, it is safe to say that Bastos has outdone each of her losses tenfold.

While Mayssa Bastos has always been familiar with hardships, she also managed to come out at the top on multiple occasions throughout her career.

That determination brought Bastos to the brink of glory in the upcoming ONE atomweight submission grappling world title match with the divisional ruler Danielle Kelly, and she wants nothing but victory.

In the same interview, she also told ONE:

"Each challenge and moment surpassed for me is a victory. It is knowing that nothing is permanent and making sure that everything I am doing has a greater purpose than the bad moment I am going through and will somehow generate learning and growth."

She added some advice for the young guns who are aiming for glory:

"The advice I can give is to focus on the things you have control over, because nothing is permanent, whether the bad or good time."
