Aung La N Sang is on the comeback trail after eight months away from competition. On November 19, ‘The Burmese Python’ will return to the circle to face Japanese MMA legend Yushin Okami in a fight that he has to win to stay near the top of the division.
The former simultaneous middleweight and light heavyweight world champion has hit a rough patch in his career since losing his world championships to Reinier de Ridder.
On the same day as his return, lightweight world champion Christian Lee will look to add the welterweight gold to his shoulder after avenging his loss to Ok Rae Yoon in his last fight.
Whilst fans were quick to praise Lee for his performance, Aung La N Sang sympathizes with his opponent, who will now be on a comeback trail of his own.

In an interview with The MMA Superfan, ‘The Burmese Python’ gave his take on the rematch between Christian Lee and Ok Rae Yoon from both perspectives:
“I don’t know man, Ok didn’t look like himself. I really wonder if Ok had an injury, like a knee injury or something. I don’t know but he didn’t look like his old self. But props to Christian to be able to do that but I don’t think that’s the last time we’re gonna see Ok Rae Yoon, for sure.”

“It’s very cool” - Aung La N Sang soaks in the chance to fight Yushin Okami at ONE 163
Aung La N Sang’s legacy in MMA is already secured with his former double world champion status. At ONE 163 on November 19, ‘The Burmese Python’ will get the chance to face a fellow legend when he faces Japan’s Yushin ‘Thunder’ Okami.
A fight between Aung La and Okami had been speculated for quite some time, but it will finally happen when the circle returns to the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
The event will also feature other notable Japanese superstars, including Hiroki Akimoto, Shinya Aoki, and 23-year-old prodigy Itsuki Hirata.
In the same interview, Aung La N Sang expressed his excitement to get to face a fellow legend like Okami, who has been competing for 20 years:
“It’s very cool, it’s like you getting to work with somebody you looked up to in the industry, you know? For me to be able to work with him, and when I say work it’s to fight him to compete against him. It’s very cool.”
Despite their legendary status, both men desperately need a win to solidify their foundations in ONE Championship. Aung La N Sang is 1-3 in his recent fights and Okami hasn’t competed in three years after going 1-2 in ONE Championship.
