As soon as Christian Lee reclaimed the lightweight strap from Ok Rae Yoon at ONE 160, he was already calling for a fight for Abbasov’s world title. While others may think it may be too soon for the 24-year-old to be moving up a weight class, Lee understands his body enough to know that it’s the right time to do it.
Speaking to The MMA Superfan, ‘The Warrior’ said he observed his body’s growth over the past few months, which helped him make the decision to test his skills at welterweight:
“Before I made the move to going for this welterweight world title, I was tracking my weight. I was noticing that after my fights, in my time off, I was comfortably sitting between 185 to 195 from time to time.”

Despite holding the lightweight crown, Christian Lee could very well be more comfortable competing closer to his walking weight.
A healthy and motivated Lee could spell disaster for Kiamrian Abbasov, as Ok Rae Yoon has learned the hard way in his last contest with the Singaporean-American.
Being a two-division world champion has always been Christian Lee’s goal
Apart from being the ONE lightweight world champion, Christian Lee has also claimed several accolades in ONE Championship, including most wins, most finishes, and most knockouts.
However, one of his goals has always been becoming a two-division world champion.
During the same interview, ‘The Warrior’ revealed that being a champ-champ has been in his career bucket list from the beginning.
Christian Lee said:
“Personally, it’s always been a goal of mine to become a double champ. Since I joined the promotion, since I started my career in MMA, my goal was first to become a world champion and second to become a double champion in two divisions.”
While Lee has showcased his skills in both the featherweight and lightweight divisions, the welterweight division is unfamiliar territory for him. The task may be daunting, but Lee has proven that it’s not impossible for him. After all, he claimed the ONE lightweight world title in his very first match in that division.
