Newly crowned ONE women's atomweight submission grappling world champion Mayssa Bastos of Brazil had a fantastic time in the ring last weekend at ONE Fight Night 24 on Prime Video.
The decorated 26-year-old jiu-jitsu fighter took home her biggest prize yet after trumping a fan-favorite Danielle Kelly in the evening's co-main event. Although Bastos was unable to get the finish, the Brazilian dominated throughout the 10-minute match duration to earn the judges' nod, the coveted gold, and a $50,000 performance bonus.
Speaking to veteran ONE Championship broadcast analyst 'The Dragon' Mitch Chilson in the ring after her match, Bastos explained how she came away with the win after noticing Kelly was hyper-focused on leg entanglements.

Bastos said:
"I think my focus was along the back, I think. So in the middle of the fight, I was trying to see that when I was finishing at the back she hit me with the leg, so I just protected the leg."
With the victory, Bastos says she wants to continue her reign in the ONE Championship for as long as possible.
She added:
"I would like to stay here, fight as much as possible, and defend the belt."
As for the bonus, Bastos was super grateful and left speechless:
"Thank you! I don’t have words right now, I’m just really happy."
Mayssa Bastos believes she would have finished Danielle Kelly if the match had gone longer: "I would have been able to finish her"
Atomweight queen Mayssa Bastos needed a few minutes to find her stride under the ONE Championship rule set. But once she did, the Brazilian was able to showcase the sublime grappling skills that made her famous.
That being said, Bastos says she could have used a little more time to get the finish.
She stated:
"I feel like my last catch was the best catch of the match. So I feel like if we maybe had a little bit more time, I would [have been] able to [finish her]."
ONE Fight Night 24: Brooks vs. Balart took place live from the historic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand on Saturday, August 3rd. Fans in the United States and Canada can catch all the action via replay on-demand on Amazon Prime Video.
