At ONE 164, Jarred Brooks will get his shot at the ONE strawweight world championship. After an injury forced him to pull out of the original fight in June, Brooks will face Joshua Pacio on December 3.
‘The Monkey God’ has emerged as the clear number one contender since debuting with ONE Championship in 2021. The American has put together three wins, all taking place since the current champion's last fight. Joshua Pacio has produced three consecutive title defenses since winning back his strawweight crown from Yosuke Saruta.
Despite Pacio’s dominance over the strawweight division, Brooks doesn’t see how ‘The Passion’ is on his level. In an interview with MMA Sucka, Jarred Brooks said:
“I don’t think Joshua Pacio is ever gonna catch up to what I’ve brought and I have fought better than Joshua Pacio, no knock to him. I have not fought the wushu caliber with the calculated mind that Joshua Pacio has, but there’s just no way man.”

He added:
“I’ve already got the checkmate before you even moved your first pawn. I know that Josh isn’t gonna come close to my style.”

Jarred Brooks claims he'd be the "perfect" final opponent for Demetrious Johnson
Jarred Brooks wants to fight Demetrious Johnson before the flyweight legend calls time on his career. The top-ranked strawweight will finally get his shot at ONE Championship gold on December 3. His rescheduled fight with Joshua Pacio will headline ONE 164.
Brooks recently posted a video on his Twitter where he spoke about the current flyweight champion and expressed a desire to share the Circle with him before it’s too late:
"Demetrious Johnson went on Joe Rogan the other day. He said he's about on his way out. I think a perfect last fight for him would be me."
'The Monkey God' proposed unique rules set up for this matchup. He explained:
"A strawweight vs flyweight champion. And if you wanted to make it interesting, we can make it mixed rules as well. We can go one round Muay Thai, second round Jiu-Jitsu, and third round MMA."
