Brazilian jiu-jitsu phenom 'Ice' Cole Abate of the United States is thankful that his home gym in Costa Mesa, California focused on building the next generation of submission grapplers, the ones who will carry the sport into the future.

For this reason, the 20-year-old rising star believes he is fully equipped to make his debut in the world's largest martial arts organization next weekend.

Abate trains at the renowned Art of Jiu-Jitsu Academy, home to reigning and undisputed ONE women's atomweight submission grappling world champion Mayssa Bastos, and he recently stacked praise onto the organization.

Speaking to ONE Championship in a recent interview, Abate had nothing but nice words to say for Art of Jiu-Jitsu Academy.

The American said:

"I saw what they were doing at AoJ, and I’ve always really admired it."

Abate added:

"They were investing in the younger generation more than the Black Belt World Champions because they were thinking in the future. They were thinking more about building a system that would run smoothly for years to come."

Needless to say, Abate is getting ready to step inside the ONE Championship ring for the very first time, and he's looking to make a statement.

But that certainly won't come easy, as the American is set to face a well-known Japanese legend in his first contest.
