As one of the top Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitors in his generation, it is no surprise that Mikey Musumeci often finds himself targeted by strong opponents.
One of those is Gabriel Sousa, fellow BJJ black belt who in fact had defeated the ONE flyweight submission grappling world champion once during his journey as a professional athlete.
Wanting to avenge this loss, Musumeci has called out for a match against the last man who has ever submitted him in a competition for quite some time. Certainly, he has got what he wanted at ONE 167: Tawanchai vs. Nattawut II.

In an interview with Jits Magazine, Musumeci said:
“I’ve been asking for this match for over a year now. I’ve been very eager to get this match back, you know? Some people have complained about my opponents in ONE Championship being a lot of MMA people, but the truth is all the top people in my division declined having matches with me multiple times."
"So, the only people that have been accepting were MMA people, and then everyone gets mad at me that I’m fighting MMA people," he added.
Mikey Musumeci is scheduled to face Gabriel Sousa in a non-title bantamweight submission grappling match at ONE 167, live from Bangkok's Impact Arena.
"Our fighting styles are different" - Gabriel Sousa eager to trade grappling techniques with Mikey Musumeci
Brazilian BJJ black belt Gabriel Sousa is excited to face his old nemesis, ONE flyweight submission grappling king Mikey Musumeci, in an anticipated rematch.
Set for ONE 167 at Bangkok's Impact Arena, Sousa says that this will be a test for his skills and determination, as he knows Musumeci is coming for a revenge.
He said to ONE Championship:
"Our fighting styles are different. I like takedowns and I like passing guard. Mikey, on the other hand, likes to play guard and takes the back or attack footlocks."
ONE 167 is airing live and free for Prime Video subscribers in the United States and Canada in U.S. primetime on Friday, June 7.
