Gervonta Davis recently gave his take on retiring from the world of boxing. As a father of two kids, Davis also talked candidly about fatherhood and his desire to get rid of his fighting instincts.

Davis is set to defend his WBA lightweight belt against super featherweight champion Lamont Roach on March 1 next year at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

During a recent interview with Inside Boxing Live, the 30-year-old spoke about his retirement, stating that he wants to get the drive to fight out of him before hanging up his gloves. Davis says he wants to be soft-hearted because of his children.

''That's why I don't want box no more. I want to do therapy right, but I feel as though if I do therapy, it will lose the fire inside that I have inside me. I want everything out of me whereas though I'll never think about fighting again. I don't think about even getting angry, cause I have two girls. Wanting to be much softer, to be more humble and things like that.''

In his recent boxing outing, Davis put his WBA title on the line against Frank Martin on June 15 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The undefeated boxer put on a dominant performance and knocked out Martin in the eighth round to retain his title. With this win, Davis improved his record to 30-0, which included 28 finishes.

Meanwhile, Roach currently holds a professional record of 25-1-1. He is coming off an eighth-round technical knockout victory against Feargal McCrory on June 28 in Washington, D.C.

Gervonta Davis discusses facing Lamont Roach instead of Vasiliy Lomachenko

Gervonta Davis was expected to take on Vasiliy Lomachenko this year in a title unification bout, however that didn't materialize.

In a recent press conference ahead of the Lamont Roach fight, 'Tank' talked about his failed bout with Lomachenko and facing the 29-year-old instead.

"He [Roach] has skills. Even though he at a smaller weight class I feel as though Lamont have — and he’s actually one of the guys that I came up with in the sport of boxing, actually like still doing well. Everybody that started with us really like not in the picture right now. So people don’t really, I would say, know him but he definitely have the skills, definitely a top opponent.''
